Moving along in our honeymoon adventure of 2012, we visited the bustling Las Vegas.
What should one do on a sweltering, 100 degree + day? Walk “The Strip” of course. Whose bright idea was that anyway? Thank goodness people were selling ice cold water bottles at every street corner. We had to walk through a lot of the hotels just to feel the cooler air!
One of the things I remember loving about Vegas when I visited before as a teenager was all the cool themed hotels, and so I wanted to revisit that love by hotel hopping for the day. Walking through Caesar’s Palace, I always love to admire the ceilings and imagine I’m perusing the streets of Rome (quite a fantasy I know….).
We stopped and had some chips, guacamole and salsa at this little place in the Venetian, admired the artwork throughout the hotel, wished that I could ride in the expensive gondola, and stopped for a little performance down near the Palazzo.
We walked around Treasure Island and the Paris hotel, stopped at a few places for drinks (because…Vegas…..).
I don’t recommend visiting Margaritaville in Vegas. Their drinks were weak and gross. There are plenty of other places to stop and get a good drink.
By now, it was time for Happy Hour, and so we stopped for a light snack at Pizzeria Cucina by Wolfgang Puck, located in The Shops at Crystals near The Aria hotel. We had some peppers stuffed with goat cheese (two orders of that! Yum!) and some polenta with some kind of marinara sauce. It was simple but delicious.
The Strip at night is lovely to see all the hotels lit up. Definitely catch the light/water show in front of the Bellagio at night. It happens every 15 minutes (and its FREE).
One thing you we found annoying about The Strip at night is all the people trying to push things on you, i.e. little cards offering escort services…and the sheer amount of people walking up and down the sidewalks. It’s a bit much!
The next day was pretty chill. We had a HUGE breakfast at the Omelet House in Henderson. They literally make 6-egg omelets there. That is insane. One person cannot possibly finish all of that! I ate half of mine…plus a side of pumpkin bread and breakfast potatoes. A word to the wise, share your meals here! Unless you are like me and the hubby – one eats meat and the other doesn’t.
We swam in the pool that afternoon, even though it was so hot, the water in the pool wasn’t even refreshing. Then, we got ready for our dinner at Marssa, which boasts to have one of the “sushi masters” of the world as its chef. The food was beautiful and inventively presented. If you’re going to venture out to Lake Las Vegas, I would definitely recommend stopping at Marssa for some sushi! Also, since it was our honeymoon, we got some champagne and a lovely dessert plate!
I’m glad we had an R & R day, because the following morning we would be heading out early to explore the Grand Canyon and Sedona, Arizona!
