Multnomah Falls had been on our list of places to visit around Portland for a while, so this time, we made sure to plan a day to drive out to see the falls. It’s just over a half hour drive from the center of Portland if you just want to experience the falls; however, I would recommend a stop at the Vista House on your way out there.
The falls really are beautiful, and really tall at 620 feet high! Everything is so lush and green. I definitely recommend hopping over to see them if you are ever in Portland.
Parking at the Falls
If you’re going in the summer beware, parking is a doozie! It’s a popular attraction in Oregon, so there are a lot of visitors. There are two parking lots available, but they were both packed when we visited and a lot of people were parking a ways down the road, walking way too far to get to the falls. We were lucky enough to come by a parking spot that wasn’t too far of a walk!
Parking used to be free, but due to the falls’ popularity, you now have to reserve timed entry at $2.00 per ticket.
Hiking at the Falls
If you want to spend the day at the falls, there are plenty of hiking trails around. We didn’t have that much time (or energy) that day, so we didn’t take any of the hiking trails, except for the short 1/4 mile pathway up to the Benson Bridge for a different viewpoint of the falls.
The Lodge at Multnomah
The lodge at Multnomah Falls is for day use only, meaning there are no overnight accommodations there. They do, however, have a restaurant on site. So if you have a hankering for a mildly expensive lunch or dinner during or after your visit to the falls, you can pay them a visit. Their menus are located on their website here: https://www.multnomahfallslodge.com/.
Safe travels!
