If you’re curious about what to eat in the neighborhood of Montparnasse, you won’t have to worry about options! On our first visit to Paris, we stayed in Montparnasse at the Hotel Le Royal on Boulevard Raspail. We typically like to find good eats within walking distance to our accommodations (which means you can enjoy all the wine you want), and there were certainly plenty of restaurants to choose from!
We ate Le Petit Broc on our first night in Paris. It was chilly out, and we needed a nice hot meal after a long day of travel. Le Petit Broc is literally just a few steps from Hotel Le Royal, and cozy enough for anyone to want to stop in and warm up!
Like many places in Paris, Le Petit Broc is a small brasserie – and I love this because it makes your dining experience feel more intimate. If you don’t speak much French, have no fear, as the servers will happily help you in English (although a little “merci” goes a long way)!
We decided upon ordering from the menu of the day – a fixed price menu which included an appetizer, main dish, and dessert.
For the appetizers, we selected one of each. For Micah, it was the endive and apple salad, and for me, the vegetable bean soup! The salad was refreshing and the soup was nice and hearty and it came in a giant bowl! It could have been my whole meal.
So, it seems pretty hard to eat vegetarian in the places we visited, so I went with a lot of the pescatarian options. I had the mushroom risotto with smoked salmon, which was pretty good and filling, and Micah had the lamb and potatoes.
Last but certainly not least, for dessert, we had a shortbread cookie topped with chocolate sauce, nuts, and a little clementine. The tangy flavor of the clementine paired really nicely with the chocolate! They had actually run out of this dessert, so we only had one and a little pot of cinnamon apples with vanilla ice cream (though that did not photograph well, so I didn’t include it here).
A delicious, warm, and comforting meal on our first night in Paris!
