On our last evening on our first trip to Paris, we ventured out to a little bistro called Moustache, just a short walk from our hotel (Hotel Le Royal) in the Montparnasse neighborhood. When choosing restaurants, we like to choose things within walking distance to our hotel, and make sure they have good reviews and food on the menu that will suit both the carnivore and herbivores (or at least pescatarian).
Tucked away on a little side street, Moustache is a cool little place with warm and cozy ambiance, just like our other restaurant experiences in the area, and our waiter was so friendly. I wish I could remember his name! He also spoke good English so we were able to order very easily.
Escargot at Moustache
When in France, eat as the French do? Does that mean escargot? It certainly does.
Escargot is one of those foods you kind of have to have an acquired taste for. They are a little chewy, but if flavored right (you know, lots of garlic, butter, and herbs), they are pretty tasty! Moustache had some pretty delicious ones. You can soak up all the extra sauce in the tray with some delicious bread too.
Fish Entrée
No surprise here, I ordered the fish for my entrée! They did not have any vegetarian options on the menu here, but that’s okay. This was a nice, light white fish (I believe it was cod), served over white beans with a delicious butter sauce. Very filling and hearty for a cool fall evening.
Chateaubriand Entrée
Micah got the Chateaubriand beef filet with tamarind sauce, with a side of fried rice and vegetables – very Asian inspired. The meat was cooked well and the side of rice was very tasty.
We were actually quite full from our meal, so we didn’t get any dessert here, though I’m wishing we would have tried their panna cotta!
If you are interested, they do have a fixed price menu where you can get an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. They also have a great (and giant poster-sized) wine menu that they will set at your table to look over.
If you are in the area, I definitely recommend checking out Moustache for dinner one night!

The chateaubriand was cooked perfectly and the snails were quite delightful. I never thought I would get my Moani to eat snails but she did for the first time at a local restaurant of ours called Caps and she hasn’t looked back since. Now if I can just get her to enjoy oysters. She is not quite there yet but we have many places to look forward to visiting where they will have great oysters. It is funny how our taste evolves with age and we start to appreciate more food as long as we give it a chance. Overall our dining experience was excellent on this trip. I guess we have yelp and trip advisor to thank for the help in choosing as well.
